About Kath
During my twenty years as a teacher, I have always been drawn to those children who find learning a bit of a struggle. Over the last ten years I have worked as a reading specialist in Wandsworth primary schools, helping hundreds of children to identify how they learn best in order to learn to read and spell. It seemed a natural step to train as a dyslexia specialist teacher and assessor, in order to provide expert teaching and support to those learners (and their families) who need it the most.
Family Support
I hold an OCR Level 7 diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) and professional membership of The British Dyslexia Association and PATOSS. This means that you can be confident that I have the expertise and experience to identify the causes of your child's difficulties with reading and writing and can help them to become a more confident learner by devising personalised recommendations that build on their strengths to support their weaknesses.
School Support
As a literacy consultant with expertise in dyslexia support and phonics, I visit primary schools across London and the South East. I offer whole staff INSET and can also work with support staff eg assessing pupils and generating personalised teaching programmes for those children who need extra support, and guiding support staff to deliver these programmes confidently. I have an extremely good rapport with the schools I work with and find I have many repeat bookings. I am also an experienced trainer; in one year alone, I delivered DfE accredited Letters and Sounds phonics training to over 30 schools across the UK.
As an APC holder, I work with a number of London secondary schools, carrying out assessments for access arrangements for GCSE and A Levels.
I have a current DBS certificate and professional indemnity insurance.
